Snapchat My AI age limit: 13+, and a parent can turn it off

The Snapchat My AI age limit is 13, because My AI is part of Snapchat and follows Snapchat’s own minimum age, or a higher one where local rules require it. There is no separate teen version. A parent enrolled in Family Center can turn on a setting that stops My AI replying to their teen.

My AI is not an app your child downloads. It is a chatbot inside Snapchat, so a teenager with Snapchat can usually reach it. That means the age question comes down to Snapchat’s own rule, and the more useful question is what a parent can do about the chatbot once a teen is there. For other apps, see AI chatbot age limits and parental controls in every AI app.

How old do you have to be to use My AI?

At least 13, the same as Snapchat. Snap’s Terms of Service, effective September 21, 2026, say its services are not directed at children younger than 13, or below a higher minimum age set in your state, province or country. Apple’s US App Store rates Snapchat 13+.

The same terms say Snap may ask users to verify their age, and that some of its other services may require being 18. We found nothing on Snap’s pages that sets a different age for My AI, or a separate teen version of it.

How a parent can turn My AI off

  1. Set up Family Center with your teen. It needs both of you to take part.
  2. In Family Center, open Settings.
  3. Turn on the setting that disables My AI.

Snap says that while this is on, My AI does not reply to your teen, and does not store or process what your teen sends it. Snapchat My AI parental controls walks through the whole setup and its limits.

What Snap keeps from My AI chats

Snapchat Support says that all content shared with My AI is stored until you delete it. It also says My AI is powered by large language models, including OpenAI’s GPT models and Google’s Gemini models. It is worth telling your teen plainly that My AI is not like a chat with a friend that disappears. Teen AI privacy has more on how to explain that.

What to do with this as a parent

  1. Check your teen’s birth date on Snapchat. It affects what they see, and Snap says My AI uses it to adjust replies.
  2. Decide whether you want My AI on at all. Turning it off does not affect the rest of Snapchat.
  3. If your child is younger than 13 and has Snapchat, that account breaks Snap’s rules. Talk about it, then decide what happens to the account.
  4. Ask what they talk to it about. Is Snapchat My AI safe for kids? can help you weigh the answer.

What TeenCue shows for My AI

Nothing. TeenCue does not cover Snapchat or My AI, and it cannot change any Snapchat setting, so Family Center is the tool that applies here. TeenCue covers a different place: AI websites such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Character.AI, used in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave on a computer. For those it shows a category, a topic and a concern rating for a chat, never what was typed, and your teen will know it is installed. The TeenCue iPhone app is coming soon. How TeenCue works lists the supported services.
