Qustodio vs TeenCue: how they compare for AI chats

Qustodio is a screen time and web filtering app for phones, tablets and computers, which can block AI websites and, on Android, summarize risky ChatGPT conversations. TeenCue covers only AI, on AI websites in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave on a computer, and shows what a chat was about without keeping what was typed. One sets limits, the other shows what AI is used for.

Qustodio and TeenCue are sometimes compared because both help parents with AI. They do it in opposite ways. Qustodio is mainly about limits: how long a child can use a device, which websites and apps open, and when. TeenCue is about understanding: what AI chats on a computer were about. This guide is written by TeenCue, so we have tried to describe Qustodio as Qustodio describes itself, and to be just as plain about our own limits.

What Qustodio does

Qustodio is a parental control app that works across Android, iPhone and iPad, Windows, Mac, Chromebook and Kindle. Its core features are daily screen time limits, restricted times, pausing the internet, web filtering and app blocking. Depending on the device and plan, it also offers location, YouTube monitoring, and calls and messages monitoring, which on an iPhone needs a Windows or Mac computer. Qustodio has a free plan for one device with basic filtering and limits, and paid plans that add more devices and features.

Qustodio and AI

Qustodio has two AI features. The first is an AI category in its web filter. Qustodio detects AI sites and apps automatically, such as chatbots and virtual friends, and a parent can allow them, block them or show a warning. This is useful if you want to switch AI off, or allow it only at certain times.

The second, added in September 2026, reviews a child’s ChatGPT conversations for risky topics and sends the parent a summary of what was discussed when something concerning comes up, rather than the conversation itself. Qustodio says this works on Android devices for now, with other platforms in the works. Its pricing page does not make clear which plan includes it, so check current plans if that is the feature you want.

What TeenCue does

TeenCue is built only for AI. It is an extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave on your child’s computer, plus a parent dashboard on the web. When your child uses a supported AI website, TeenCue records what a chat was about: a category such as School or Personal advice, a short topic, and a concern level of Normal, Low, Moderate or Significant. Chats rated Moderate or above are grouped as worth a look. You see this on your dashboard and in a weekly summary email.

TeenCue never stores what your child typed, and it does not record general browsing. It does not set time limits, block websites or filter anything. It does not cover phones or tablets, AI inside other apps such as Snapchat or Instagram, or browsers other than Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave. It is visible in your child’s browser, so they will know it is there. The TeenCue iPhone app is coming soon, as the parent’s app. How TeenCue works lists exactly what it records and what it does not.

The differences that matter

Limits or understanding

Qustodio answers "how much, and is it allowed?". It can block an AI website outright, or limit when your child can use it. TeenCue answers "what is it being used for?". It can tell you that most of this week’s AI use was homework, and that one chat about a friend may be worth a conversation. Neither does the other’s job.

Which AI services

Qustodio’s AI category can block or allow AI sites in general, but its conversation summaries cover ChatGPT only, on Android. TeenCue covers nine AI websites on a computer, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Character.AI, but shows a summary rather than any conversation text.

Which devices

Qustodio runs on almost every device a child might have. TeenCue runs only in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave on a computer today. If your teen does most of their AI use on a phone, TeenCue will not see it.

Which one fits your family

  • Qustodio may suit you if your main goal is screen time and filtering across every device, including the option to block AI websites.
  • TeenCue may suit you if your teen is allowed to use AI on a computer and you want to understand what it is used for, across several AI services, without reading their chats.
  • Both may suit you if you want limits on every device and a clearer picture of AI use on the computer. TeenCue is designed to work alongside tools like Qustodio, not replace them.

Whatever you choose, start with the free controls built into the AI apps themselves. Parental controls in every AI app covers each one and puts the separate tools side by side. Bark vs TeenCue compares a broader monitoring service. Prices change, so check each company’s own site for current plans.

Common questions

Can Qustodio block ChatGPT and other AI websites?

Yes. Qustodio’s web filter has an AI category that detects AI sites and apps, and a parent can allow them, block them or show a warning. Individual sites can also be blocked.

Does Qustodio monitor ChatGPT conversations?

On Android, yes. Since September 2026 Qustodio reviews ChatGPT conversations for risky topics and sends parents a summary of what was discussed. Qustodio says other platforms are in the works.

Can I use Qustodio and TeenCue together?

Yes. Qustodio sets limits and filters across devices, and TeenCue shows what AI chats on a computer were about. They do different jobs and can run side by side.

Does TeenCue block AI websites like Qustodio does?
