AI Safety

Is Talkie safe for kids? Its terms say 14+, but Apple rates it 18+

Talkie is not designed for kids, and we would not treat it as safe for them. It is an AI character chat app whose terms set a minimum age of 14, or higher in some countries, while Australia’s online safety regulator lists 16 and Apple rates one Talkie app 18+. We found no parental controls, so that disagreement is a reason for caution.

Talkie is an app for chatting with AI characters that users create and share. Its home page invites you to look for connections. That puts it with companion apps rather than homework tools, even though its age rule is lower than most of them. For how companion apps differ, see AI companion apps and teens, and for other apps, parental controls in every AI app.

What is the Talkie age limit?

The sources do not agree, and a parent should know that before relying on any of them.

Talkie’s terms page is the one we could read directly. It lists 16 for countries including Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Brazil and Singapore, and 15 for France, Denmark and Greece. Some websites report a newer version of the terms that says 16 with a parent’s permission, but the page Talkie served us on November 5, 2026 was the April 2025 version. An app store rating is a separate judgment from the company’s own rule, which is why they can differ. The two apps are also listed under different names.

What to watch for on Talkie

  • Characters made by other users. Most of what your teen meets on Talkie was written by someone else, so quality and tone vary from one character to the next.
  • Mature content. Australia’s eSafety Commissioner says Talkie has filters for not-safe-for-work content in chatbot search, and warns that young people could meet content that is not age appropriate. Talkie’s community guidelines prohibit sexualizing minors, including fictional ones.
  • Companion design. Common Sense Media’s risk assessment of social AI companions recommends that no one under 18 use them.
  • No parent view. Talkie’s terms and privacy policy describe no parental controls, and its terms say only that it does not knowingly collect information from minors below its minimum age.

Talkie is run by SUBSUP PTE. LTD., which its privacy policy names as the operator. The policy applies to the website and the app. Before your teen shares anything personal, it is worth knowing that their chats are held by a company you have no parent account with.

If your teen is already using Talkie

  1. Ask them to show you a character they like. You will learn more in five minutes of looking together than from any rating.
  2. Ask what it is for: stories, company, flirting, passing time. How to talk to your teen about AI companions has questions that keep the conversation open.
  3. If your teen is below the age Talkie’s terms set for your country, the account breaks them. Explain that, and decide together what happens next.
  4. If you decide to block it, use Apps & Websites in your child’s Family settings on iPhone, or App limits in Family Link on Android or a Chromebook. Block talkie-ai.com too, because blocking the app does not block the website.

If your teen seems withdrawn or relies on the app to get through the day, talk to their doctor or a mental health professional. If you are worried about someone’s safety right now, call or text 988 in the US, or your local emergency number.

What TeenCue shows for Talkie

Nothing. Talkie is not one of the services TeenCue supports, so a chat there does not appear on your dashboard. TeenCue covers AI websites such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Character.AI, used in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave on a computer. For those it shows a category, a topic and a concern rating for a chat, never what was typed, and your teen will know it is installed. It does not block apps. The TeenCue iPhone app is coming soon. How TeenCue works lists the supported services.

Common questions

Is Talkie safe for kids?

We would not treat it as safe for kids. It is a companion-style app built on characters made by other users, its own age rule starts at 14, and we found no parental controls.

What age is Talkie for?

Sources disagree. Talkie’s terms page says 14, or 15 or 16 in listed countries. Australia’s eSafety Commissioner lists 16, Apple rates the Talkie Lab app 18+, and Google Play rates the Talkie app Teen.

Does Talkie have parental controls?

We found none described in its terms, community guidelines or privacy policy. Device controls on iPhone or Android and a conversation are a parent’s main tools.

On iPhone, use Apps & Websites in your child’s Family settings. On Android phones and Chromebooks, use App limits in Google Family Link. Block the talkie-ai.com website as well, since blocking the app does not block the site.
